Medeco LFIC Cores

The Large-Format Interchangeable core (LFIC) is the big brother of the Small-Format Interchangeable core (SFIC). Other than their larger size, they are very similar in operation to SFICs. They take two keys, the operating key that operates the lock as usual, and the control key which allows the core to be removed from its housing.

Unlike SFICs, many LFICs do not use a control key with a totally unique bitting from the operating key. In some cases the control key is identical to the operating key but slightly longer, allowing a mechanism in the back of the core to be reached. In other cases, the control key is almost identical to the operating key but has a few middle positions cut differently to interact with a lug on the side of the core.
